While I am a bit behind in my posts on here, I was moved to make this post because I was given a rather final opportunity: to perform at The Masquerade in Atlanta, GA right before they started construction on the site.
A professional friend of mine, DJ Doc Q put out a call on Facebook for go-go dancers to perform for a set in the Hell level of The Masquerade following the Caravan Palace with Lab Rabbits show in the Heaven level. I’d never been to this historic and storied venue before and I was already going to be in the area for the Timegate Convention so I was quick to volunteer for the night.
I have to say, I can see why the venue has been such a cornerstone for so very long. It has a beautiful feel of potential to it. Three levels of bars and dance floors, wooden floors and the ability to have three completely different performance/events at once. I couldn’t help feeling like I could hear and feel the shades of past events layered through the years over the bare walls.
We danced the night away to the usually upbeat and easily danceable playlist of Doc Q. ( I must note that not every DJ is able to provide a good go-go dancing playlist. I think this is due to the lack of a lot of djs that I’ve seen being uninterested in actually dancing to their own music. Q is, himself, an avid dancer, so he is well aware of what moves the human body.)
While I will likely not be returning to the historic location before it closes, I am so very pleased to have had the chance to be on it’s stages at least once.
